|| जिन-वचन ||


	अप्पणट्ठा परट्ठा वा कोहा वा जइ वा भया । हिंसगं न मुसं बूया नो वि अन्नं वयावए ।
	One should not, either through anger or through fear, lie or encourage others to lie, which may lead to violence, even if it is for the benefit of one's own self or that of someone else.
	अपने या औरों के लाभ के लिए, क्रोध से या भय से ऐसा असत्य न बोला जाए या औरों से न बुलवाया जाए जिस से हिंसा हो ।


	वितहं पि तहामुत्तिं जं गिरं भासए नरो । तम्हा सो पुट्ठो पावेणं किं पुण जो मुसं वए ॥
	It is sin to speak something which may appear like untruth. Then what to say about speaking obvious untruth?
	जो पुरुष असत्यभासी वचन बोलता है वह भी पाप है; तो फिर जो साक्षात् असत्य वचन बोलता है उस का तो कहना ही क्या ?


	तहेव फरुसा भासा गुरुभूओवधाइणी । सच्चा वि सा न वत्तव्वा जओ पावस्स आगमो ॥
	One should not utter harsh language which may lead to killing, even if it is true, since it is sinful.
	सत्य भाषा भी यदि कठोर और प्राणियों का बड़ा घात करने वाली हो तो न बोली जाए, क्यों कि इस से पाप-कर्म का बंध होता है ।


	असच्चमोसं सच्चं च अणवज्जमकक्कसं । समुप्पेहमसंदिद्धं गिरं भासेज्ज पण्णवं ॥
	A wise man should not speak such a language which is a mixture of truth and untruth. While uttering truth, he should use such a language which is sinless, delicate, unambiguous and well thought out.
	प्रज्ञावान पुरुष असत्यामृषा (सत्य और असत्य के मिश्रण वाली) भाषा न बोले, और सत्य भाषा भी ऐसी बोले जो अनवद्य, मृदु, संदेह रहित और विचारपूर्ण हो ।


	तहेव काणं काणे त्ति पंडगं पंडगे त्ति वा । वाहियं वा वि रोगी त्ति तेणं चोरे त्ति नो वए ॥
	One should not call a one-eyed person one-eyed, an impotent person impotent, a diseased person diseased, or a thief a thief.
	काने को काना, नपुंसक को नपुंसक, रोगी को रोगी और चोर को चोर न कहना चाहीजे ।


	कोहो पीइं पणासेइ माणो विणयनासणो । माया मित्ताणि नासेइ लोभो सव्वविणासणो ।।
	Anger destroys love; ego destroys modesty; deceit destroys friendship and greed destroys everything.
	क्रोध प्रीति का नाश करता है; मान विनय का नाश करता है; माया (कपट) मैत्री का नाश करती है और लोभ सर्व का नाश करता है ।


	कोहं माणं च मायं च लोभं च पाववड्ढणं । वमे चत्तारि दोसे उ इच्छंतो हियमप्पणो ।।
	Anger, ego, deceit and greed escalate sinful activities. Therefore those desirous of self-purification should avoid these four evils.
	क्रोध, मान, माया और लोभ ये पाप को बढानेवाले हैं । अपनी आत्मा का हित चाहनेवाला इन चारों दोषों को छोड़ दे ।


	उवसमेण हणे कोहं माणं मद्दवया जिणे । मायं च ऽ ज्जवभावेण लोभं संतोसओ जिणे ।।
	Destroy anger through calmness, overcome ego by modesty, discard deceit by straightforwardness and defeat greed by contentment.
	उपशम से क्रोध को नष्ट करो, मृदुता से मान को जीतो, सरलता से माया (कपट) को दूर करो और संतोष से लोभ पर विजय प्राप्त करो ।


	अपुच्छिओ न भासेज्जा भासमाणस्स अंतरा । पिट्ठिमंसं न खाएज्जा मायामोसं विवज्जए ॥
	A wise man should not speak without being asked; he should not interrupt while his seniors are talking; he should not indulge in back-biting others and he should never tell a lie or hide something.
	साघक बिना पूछे न बोले, गुरुजन बोलते हों तब बीच में न बोले, चुगली न खाए और कपटयुक्त असत्य बचन का त्याग करे ।
